Access to clean water and sanitation is a fundamental human right. We work to provide communities with safe drinking water sources, improve sanitation facilities, and promote hygiene practices to prevent waterborne diseases and improve overall health and well-being. Our iinitiatives and Approach for Water and Sanitation include:-
• Identify suitable locations in underserved communities for sinking boreholes to provide access to clean and safe drinking water.
• Collaborate with local authorities and water experts to conduct feasibility studies, drilling operations, and maintenance plans for boreholes.
• Ensure sustainability by engaging community members in water management and conservation practices, including regular maintenance and monitoring of boreholes.
• Establish water committees comprised of community members to oversee the operation and maintenance of boreholes, promote equitable access, and resolve any disputes.
• Construct gender-segregated toilets in communities, schools, and public areas to improve sanitation and hygiene practices.
• Design toilets using appropriate technology and materials to ensure durability, accessibility, and privacy for users.
• Provide education and training on proper toilet usage, handwashing, and sanitation practices to promote behavior change and prevent the spread of diseases.
• Promote menstrual hygiene management by ensuring that toilets are equipped with facilities for disposal of sanitary products and providing education on menstrual health and hygiene.
• Conduct hygiene education campaigns in schools, households, and community gatherings to raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and hygiene.
• Utilize participatory approaches such as drama, songs, and interactive workshops to engage community members and reinforce key messages on handwashing, water treatment, and waste management.
• Distribute hygiene kits containing soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other essential hygiene items to encourage proper hygiene practices and improve health outcomes.
• Train community health workers and volunteers as hygiene promoters to serve as role models and advocates for improved sanitation and hygiene within their communities
• Identify areas where both humans and animals lack access to water and establish watering points to provide water for livestock and wildlife.
• Implement measures to prevent contamination of water sources by animals, such as installing troughs and fencing around watering points.
• Promote integrated water resource management practices that consider the needs of both humans and animals while ensuring the sustainability of water sources.
By implementing these initiatives, Safari Ya Msamaria Mwema aims to address the water and sanitation needs of underserved communities, improve health outcomes, and promote sustainable development. Together, we can ensure access to clean water and sanitation facilities for all, enhancing the well-being and dignity of individuals and communities.
